Nintendo Rejected Natal

I just read a wonderful article over at the Escapist Magazine website. Apparantly the people who developed the Natal hardware pitched to Nintendo a few years ago, and whilst they were impressed they turned it down because of price point. I think the best point this article makes is pointing out the SNES-CD to Playstation incident. For those of you who don’t know Nintendo once had a deal with Sony to produce a CD add-on for the SNES. The problem here was when Nintendo reviewed the contract they realised that Sony would practically control all titles developed for the SNES CD-ROM. As a result they cancelled the plans with Sony and allied themselves with Phillips (Hence the birth of the CD-i).

So the question is although Nintendo have been good to consider price point for the consumers, have they let go of a potentially big investment by letting go of Natal?

Triforce Family Crest

Many years ago on one of my  many trips to Hong Kong I went to a maritime museum in Macau as part of a short excursion. I took some photographs of models over there and one of the ships that caught my eye had a familiar symbol on it. Upon closer inspection it was none other than our favourite gaming series most important symbol, the Triforce. Unfortunately I think that photo was lost in my old hard drive (R.I.P). So I did a little fishing around when I remembered that to try and find out the significance of this. I have found out that the symbol is in fact a ‘mon’ which is our equivalent of a family crest. The Triforce belongs to the Hojo family which had a huge clan in Japan. This clan was so influential you can see them in various areas of media, fans of Final Fantasy VII may remember a certain Professor Hojo.

Netflix for Wii, DSi XL for Europe

As reported by both Yahoo and Kotaku, the Wii is the third and final console that will see the addition of Netflix, and this will occur sometime in the spring. Maybe this will put a hole in all the persistent Wii-HD-for-2010 theories.

Meanwhile, the DSi XL has been given a European release date, which is March 5th.
