Default No Avengers for Edward Norton

Despite Norton wanting to reprise his role as the Hulk, it seems that Marvel decided to drop him in favour of a new Bruce Banner who will be more of a 'team player' so to speak. And with that in mind who do you reckon would be good to take this role? Also I think it's a shame I thought Norton pulled it off pretty well. Apparently Marvel have approached Joaquin Phoenix which I think is a terrible idea. >.>

This is getting ridiculous. The Hulk movies didn't need to be rebooted in the first place, and now that they have, they dropped the new Bruce Banner?

This doesn't make any sense. They're exhausting their franchises/characters with reboots when they should just be sticking to the old franchises. -_-

And didn't Phoenix go batshit insane? He was actually one of my favorite actors when he was competent, but...damn.

-sigh- Superhero movies...Other than the few and far-between standout ones (i.e. Iron Man, Dark-Knight Batman), they have all just gone to shit. They need to just let some sleeping dogs lie, especially where the fuckin Hulk is concerned.

I wasn't so sure about the Hulk movie before Nortons, I felt that Nortons version nailed the formula spot on personally. I can understand from the Spiderman point of view as Mcguire was getting injured from doing the stunts himself and everything, and to be fair it has been a triology. But what is up with all these reboots? They're trying to fix something that isn't broken, and quite frankly something that was working quite well.

I think ditching Norton is a mistake, he's a very good actor and did a fantastic job.
I'm not sure if about that but I don't think he's best suited for the role.

The only current comic franchise movie from Marvel which I do think is genuinely very good still is Iron Man. Iron Man and Dark Knight are THE comic book movies of the moment in my opinion. And the moment they started getting somewhere decent with the Hulk they ditch it? >.>

Makes no sense..

This is disappointing. I really liked the new hulk; he did an awesome job as Banner.

What were they thinking, dropping Norton for Ruffalo? Norton's brilliant. He might not be perfect as Banner, but he fits better than most.

On a side-note, I agree regarding Iron Man and Dark Knight. Two outstanding comic book movies born from an industry that typically puts out crap when it comes to films.

The most recent hulk movie was amazing!

I haven't really been impressed by any Hulk movie I've seen. They range from mediocre to tolerable.

So... could care more, could care less. Doesn't really make me mad or break my heart.

well, theres lot of films based off of comics, alot were actually good. i mean, 300 was awesome, sin city was awesome, i loved watchmen, hellboy was pretty good. 30 days of night was awesome, and the underworld movies were awesome.

theres more im sure, but all these were comic boo movies that in my opinion were great. the older superman movies were great, and the batmans, part 1 and 2, were also awesome.

That's true, but there are other examples too. Superman and Superman 2 were incredible, as was Batman Begins before The Dark Knight. And don't forget Spider-man 2 and the X-men movies.

Ena already covered many of the good movies. But I'm consistently surprised that people forget about the first two Superman movies, since they define the genre and are still some of the grandest comic book films to date. Even though my favorite superhero movie is Batman Begins, you can't forget about the classics.

I also quite liked Ang Lee's Hulk, as a movie. It was fantastic. I didn't really give a shit that it wasn't faithful to the comic book, so maybe my view on that is odd...but I don't see people up in arms about the masterpiece Blade Runner being very untrue to its source material, and you can't tell me a comic about a green giant in purple shorts is somehow more sacred than one of Philip K. Dick's best works. Producers, writers, directors, etc. should change plot points for movies if they feel it serves the script, because movies are a different medium than books (or comic books), and when fans fail to recognize the quality of a film just because they don't like the changes, that's a problem with objectivity. They didn't stop to think that maybe Lee was trying to deliver a wholly different experience based on the character as an inspiration. The comic fans' backlash against Lee's Hulk really bothered me, and it's part of the reason that I haven't even watched the new one. Maybe they should just bring Bana back to the role and make the 2003 film canon--it was really good.

Also, I was really happy to see it wasn't oversaturated with action (part of what I loved about Begins as well) but rather focused almost exclusively on character. Isn't that what makes a story interesting? Yet people said, for some reason, there wasn't enough action, when action should really be secondary. Action scene followed by action scene followed by action scene is...boring. o_O But Lee used the film medium to tell a story, visually, aurally, and through dialog, without resorting to constant smashing and explosions. It was like no other comic book movie before or since because action was an afterthought. I guess that's why it wouldn't be suited to an Avengers film. But if some quality introspection is considered unsuitable to fans of the Hulk, I can only imagine the action-centered circle-jerk this Avengers film will be. Maybe it's actually better that this Hulk doesn't even have a chance of getting revived.

Meh, fanboys.

Did Rhodey from Iron Man have a part in the Norton Hulk movie that was to imply that he worked basically in the department neighboring the one that was responsible for Bruce Banner's condition? Something along the lines of one department was biological, where the other was technological?

So they tie the Hulk and Iron Man films together in that regard... then drop the damn actor that earned the film rave reviews, sold tickets to the huddled masses, and just overall kicked ass all over the silver-screen?

I heard about this ages ago, but never really said much - now I'm saying it: These people are douches. Here's hoping that the good Lord, Whedon, can save this film from producers/ass-hats making potentially disastrous decisions. The sheer thought of this movie is too awesome to allow it to be shafted by morons.

Edit: Oh, and if I'm not mistaken, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man also appears in the film, if only briefly. But, no, changing actors will totally make a lot of sense, despite keeping others.
