The NPD Group have released the console sales figures for December 09. Surprise, surprise, Nintendo tops the charts.

• Wii – 3,810,000
• Nintendo DS – 3,310,000
• PlayStation 3 – 1,360,000
• Xbox 360 – 1,310,000
• PSP – 654,700
• PlayStation 2 – 333,200

Nintendo sold a combined 7120000 units in December, almost 2 million more than last years figures of 5190000. Factors such as a US price drop to $199 and New Super Mario Bros Wii most likely helped to boost sales figures. Sony also performed well, taking second place in the current gen sales, the PS3 2450000 units behind Nintendo’s money maker, and amassing a total of 2347900 units sold. Microsofts Xbox 360 brought up the rear in current gen sales, 50000 units behind the PS3. Handheld sales repeat the same old story, the DS thumping the PSP.
