Of Lozzies and Websites
I know most of you won’t notice that I’m doing this about an hour later than I usually would, but I was out watching the Parseid Meteor Shower and only got home about half an hour ago. Anyhow, today is day three of the Lozzies, and as promised, I have two more to reveal today! Click “Read More” to find out who won the Rembrant, most visually appealing site, and the Pulitzer, site with the best news coverage.
The Rembrant: Zelda Capital – www.zeldacapital.com
Zelda Capital is, quite simply, stunning. Although their header is quite large, it is nonetheless impressive and captivating. The fan-art feel of the whole thing is great, and it gives a real sense that it is a site made by fans, for fans. After looking at that, scrolling down reveals a sort of “ye olde inne” style to the site, with the heading banners and the text style. The color scheme, to say the least, is easy on the eyes; since red is such an under-used color these days on Zelda sites, it’s nice to see some red getting good attention.
The navigation of the layout is simple and easy, with each section labeled clearly and not organized like rubbish. The way that the text fits perfectly all around, and doesn’t seem too hard to read with the color contrast, this site is quite pleasant to stick around it, assuming the content’s up to snuff! Like Hyrule.net, Zelda Capital also features a login box at the top of their site for the forums, so I’ll pop on over to their forums.
At the crossover, I notice that the site layout is fully integrated; that is to say, the front page and the forums feel like they are literally part of one site, rather than two separate entities with two very distinct layouts and color schemes. In today’s Zelda Community, that is definitely a rarity. In the end, Zelda Capital is a beautifully designed site, and that’s just all the more reason to go and check them out and see what they have to offer!
The Pulitzer: ZeldaInformer – www.zeldainformer.com
If you don’t already visit ZeldaInformer often for your daily Zelda news, all I can say is, you’re probably missing out on some news. If you’re a regular visitor of ZeldaWiki.org, you’ll notice that on their “Masterminds” news feed, that ZeldaInformer always seems to have at least one article taking up that space, if not two or even three at any given time. This is because if there’s news, ZeldaInformer staff knows about it, and they are posting about it.
Not only do they tell us about news, ZeldaInformer has a knack for giving us their own unique spin on it. The site is notorious for its opinion and editorial content, and although a good portion of it is dedicated to Zelda theorizing, a lot of it is also based on just simple news. It definitely gives a unique edge to the news, and makes them worth checking out as a news source as opposed to a site that just tells you what’s happening and leaving it at that.
To tie it all together, the new layout at ZeldaInformer gives one the feeling of reading an actual newspaper, which only solidifies the idea that news, editorials, and overall opinion and reporting is where ZeldaInformer’s talents lie. So next time you’re itching for some news and a good opinion to go along with it, be sure to visit ZeldaInformer!
That’s all I’ve got for today, check back tomorrow for the next two, and on Friday for the revealing of the site that has won “The Pinnacle”, the best overall site for the year! Be sure to talk about how great these sites are over at the forum.
